God is Dead! What now?
“God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers?” Nietzsche
Caster Semenya, the Olympic Gold medal winner, who was born a girl, who has lived as a woman, and is a woman, now has to take testosterone reducing medication or she is banned from running in women’s events.
David Seymour, a New Zealand politician, now proposes that the age-old standard of “thou shalt not kill” is not just outdated and antiquated but unfair, and asks us to draw a new line in the sand as to when death is acceptable.
Israel Folau, a rugby player, posts a verse from the Christian scriptures and is told that he has breached the “inclusivity standards” of the game and is subsequently excluded from the game.
Make what you will of the three previous statements, they are factual accounts, not opinions, my concern is not with their accuracy but with who now makes the new rules.
Surely that is a reasonable enough question to ask?
Who has the integrity, objectivity and moral authority to decide (invent) these new rules?
By all means kill off the concept of God if you must, deny even the very notion of objective truth and proclaim from the rooftops that all reasoning is subjective.
Nietzsche went on to say “This death of God will lead not only to the rejection of a belief of cosmic or physical order but also to a rejection of absolute values themselves — to the rejection of belief in an objective and universal moral law, binding upon all individuals. In this manner, the loss of an absolute basis for morality leads to nihilism”
So please answer me this.
Who will you now stand in the place where God used to stand and by what standard do you want them to rule?
Me? You? Jacinda? Trump?
I’m genuinely keen to know.
